yuck my yum

we've all been there... your highschool lover... the one you saw yourself with forever... and they tell you they're bored and looking for someone new... i thought i remembered them saying they'll never "yuck my yum"???

out of the breakup ashes the song "yuck my yum" was born...

lyrically i begun this song with the assertively punchy lyric "2am and we're in bed" (at this point everyones thinking... 'oh some sexy adult times are about to happen') but "you and I are zombies we're both playing dead" is the REAL adult life these kids listening can look forward to... you've lost the spark with your partner and now you lay in bed in darkness wondering if its you or them that's changed??

the analogy of yuck my yum actually came from a convo with a past partner where she joked "don't stink my kink" after a convo about desires and... well I couldn't write a song with that title haha - so i gave it my own spin and turned it into yuck my yum.

lyrically the chorus and bridge very closely follow the visualisation of eating with "taste buds changed a long way since we were younger" and "fill my mouth with food but i bite my tongue" - i felt like the line 'bite my tongue' was a cliche and popular trope in books and songs BUT with the prefix of filling a mouth with food i'm super stoked with the new angle of this line... you're asking yourself... "how, with all this food in my mouth, did i still manage to bloody bite my tongue??" ; in otherwords... "how can i pour everything into this relationship and it still go catastrophic"

sonically i've always been fascinated by songs that sound happy and head boppy but lyrically are rather dark and intense - so this is my take on it

the song was recorded at home, like all my others, just by myself, with which i have found an appreciated refuge and cathartic release by.

please yum this song only haha

lyrics

2 a m and we’re in bed…
You and I are zombies we’re both playing dead…
(You say) it’s not me and its just you…
But babe if you’re dying make me a coffin too…

Who said you were never gonna yuck my yum…
I guess your taste buds changed a long ways since we were younger…
I fill my mouth with food but I bite my tongue…
I’m choking on words, since I heard that you were done…

2 p m its dinner for breakfast…
This silence is violence where’s the emergency exit…
All we do is stare, smile for the cameras, where’s my Oscar where’s the red carpet entrance?

You’ve got something on your mind…
Whenever I ask you say you’re fine…
Used to be the apple of your eye (used to be the apple to your core)
Now I’m just the rotten core (but now you want more…)

Who said you were never gonna yuck my yum…
I guess your taste buds changed a long ways since we were younger…
I fill my mouth with food but I bite my tongue…
I’m choking on words, since I heard that you were done…

You said its human nature to get bored of just one thing…
As you’re pouring the milk into your favourite cereal since we were kids…
You said you’re doing this for both of us…
Choking on my words I bite my tongue…
I guess your taste buds changed a long way since we were younger…

Who said you were never gonna yuck my yum…
I guess your taste buds changed a long ways since we were younger…
I fill my mouth with food but I bite my tongue…
I’m choking on words, since I heard that you were done…
