about

PHUZZ BOY is a 5 track journey reflecting the odd evolution of my world in 2018…

It’s an honest, deep, and relatable diary entry into my life. I think my EP will resonate best with millennials, with lyrics reflecting on time and age, losing and making friends, and coming to terms with childhood dreams versus adult reality… The EP isn’t sad, or happy, it’s just real.

The EP is wholly made by myself… written, recorded, produced, mixed blah blah blah… I’m not sure when it happened, but, maybe last year, i fell deeply and inextricably in love with a DIY (do it yourself) mentality… it might’ve been born from ego wanting my hand on the steering wheel at all times, or maybe born from having unreliable third parties, or maybe I just wanted to own something and be proud of it…

This craving has led me down a path i’m so thankful for, I’ve thrown myself in the deep end time and time again, and the product created from the trials and tribulations is undoubtedly TIMI TEMPLE.

The opening track is ‘2pm For Breakfast’… this is you, in a rocket ship, crashing furiously into the TT world. I’ve made a signature of ‘tongue in cheek social commentary’ and this song reflects that perfectly! Yes yes, I’m a musician, I wake up late and I go to sleep late and thus eat Breakfast late… BUT! I like hiding important themes in my songs… This song is more about breaking out of the 9-5 mould of social conditioning and constructs… I used lyrics like “ivory tower” and “glass ceilings” juxtaposed with “rush shower” and “dirty dealings” to further push this concept. (I think my year 10 history teacher would be proud i remembered something from her classes haha)

“Snekboy” is what I call the people you refer to as ‘friends’ in the loosest possible term. Any one who does a doggo act in the TT world is a snekboy. I think as I grow up I’m starting to experience friends of convenience come and go more and more and obtrusively pushed aside by those social ladder climbers. The opening line of this song sums it all up… “Snekboy steals your cigarettes, he’s the guy that’s out the door straight after sex”…

The focus track off the EP is ‘Pretty Boy’, a song inspired by the dichotomy between gender representation in the music industry. The impetus to this song was a male musician friend of mine, complaining that everyone ignores his music because he's arguably very attractive. This struck me as horribly ironic, because it's an exact reflection of the day to day struggle women in the music industry are exposed to…

Now for the ballad of the EP… “Dreams, As A Kid”… I can’t actually sing this song without a lump in my throat growing, holding back tears… I don’t think there ever was a time I didn’t want live a life of music, but as a child, it’s all fantasy and no responsibility… the dream is the same, but darker now. The first line to this song started a chain reaction of me using homophone rhymes e.g. “night & knight” ~ I didn’t use that one though cause it was too basic haha ~ I don’t think I’ve ever taken longer writing lyrics and I gave up writing this song many times before finishing it. With the challenge of the rhymes but maintaining a personal integrity to the tune torturing me a few weeks of steady manipulation of lyrics and think this is one of my proudest efforts to date…

“Young Man, Old Boy” rounds off the PHUZZ BOY EP ~ it’s pretty much where my mind is at right now… I’m not young anymore, and I hope I’m not old yet… and it cooks my head. I’m the same age Jimi, Kurt, and Amy were when they left this planet and they were candles that burnt so bright… Maybe my next EP/Album will be called ‘old boy’ haha but for now I'm stuck in limbo.

about

TIMI TEMPLE Sydney, Australia

Exuding effortless charm and Timi’s delicate vocal delivery, ‘Yuck My Yum’ is a wholesome cut of infectious indie-pop that pulls at the heartstrings through captivating lyricism and deft production. Reminiscent of luminaires girl in red, Gus Dapperton and Clairo, the track wields an elegant, dynamic range, from it’s gorgeous, pulled-back bridge, to its off-centre, eccentric outro. ... more
